an amazing man. He had an infectious laugh. Charming as hell. A visionary. Talented designer and creative thinker, always the one to come up with the genius (and sometimes crazy) idea. Austrian to the core yet happily American. He left us way too early on 1 March 2009.
Klaus passed away on 1 March 2009 in Portland, Oregon. He had begun his education to become a master brewer to indulge his other great passion, beer-making. He was a force to be reckoned with in every area of his life.
Fashion school led to his own shop and atelier, ASSASYN in Vienna's first district ("The Bermuda Triangle"). Traditional trachten merged with modern ideas, vintage fabrics, and artisinal techniques formed his distinctive look and style.
Klaus' freelance work was wide and varied, - New York, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon - from outdoors and performance men's and women's wear to motorcycle and extreme sports wear. Most notably, he was the Creative Director for Harley-Davidson Motorclothes. Klaus designed and registered the official Harley-Davidson tartan.
Knitter, chainmail artist, and blogger. Current resident of Pittsburgh, owned by an Airedale Terrier and two black cats. Fancier of the odd, artsy, quirky, and darker side of life.
Klaus did not leave us with pristine portfolios or organized shelves of his work. Photos, sketches, articles, and even clothing, were in constant use for inspiration and new projects. So while there isn't a lot that has survived, the task of caring for and curating his work has been challenging, heartbreaking, and ultimately cathartic for his widow Lulu.
A team in life, forever linked. Klaus and Lulu Höller married in Las Vegas (by Elvis!). A marriage of minds, bodies, and souls.
